Become a tutor for an exchange student!
The Student Union of Diaconia UAS - O'Diako is recruiting tutors in Helsinki for international exchange students for spring 2018. You can become a tutor at any stage of your studies and no previous experience is required – all you need is an open mind and willingness to help others!
Why should I become a tutor?
Being a tutor is fun and rewarding. As an international tutor you get to know other cultures and make new friends from different parts of the world. In many ways tutoring is a valuable experience and it can also be advantageous when job hunting!
Can I apply?
You can become an international tutor at any stage of your studies and you don’t need any special skills or previous experience. Tutor’s most important feature is that they want to help new students. We wish to have tutors from different backgrounds.
What does an international tutor do?
Tutors need to take part in orientation on December 14th, from 4.30-6.30 pm.
Tutors will meet the new students in January or February as they begin their studies or placement here in Diak. International tutor’s responsibilities include contacting the exchange student before they arrive, meeting them at the airport and helping out with practicalities. An international tutor should also support the exchange student and be a friend to them.
What will I get?
Tutoring is a great experience and we usually get amazing feedback from tutors. You can also get credits from this! When tutoring is done, you should write a short report to get 2 credits from tutoring and have an employment certificate. For a new student, your help is irreplaceable.
